Background and purpose
Stockholm Care AB was established in 1991 and is wholly owned by the Stockholm County Council. Stockholm Care is the County Council’s organ for export of healthcare and nursing services and is responsible for marketing, provision of services and administrative coordination.
The company mandate is to:
- provide (highly specialised) treatment and care in Sweden to patients from abroad,
- offer training in Sweden to foreign healthcare personnel,
- engage in international consulting activities within the healthcare sector,
- own, develop and administer the Tobias Registry, a national registry of healthy donors of blood-forming stem cells. Tobias Registry

The company represents the collective healthcare organisation as well as dental care in the Stockholm County Council area with a total of about 40,000 employees. It includes six hospitals and a large number of smaller clinics. To this should be added cooperation with hospitals and clinics within the private sector. The company therefore has a very large knowledge base at its disposal which offers breadth as well as depth.
